    Applied Mathematics-II:

    UNIT-I

    Differential Calculus: Functions, limits, continuity, functions and their graphs, range and domain, elementary methods of finding limits (right and left), elementary test for continuity and differentiability. Methods of finding derivate: Function of a function, Logarithmic differentiation, Differentiation of implicit functions, Higher order derivatives, Leibnitz theorem.

    UNIT-II

    Special Functions: (Exponential, Logarithmic, Hyperbolic, Inverse circular and function), Definition, Graphs, range and Domain and Derivations of each of these functions. Application: Finding Tangents, Normal, Points of Maxima/Minima, Increasing/ Decreasing functions, sketching of some simple curves (without assumptions, question, not be asked in the examination), Rate, Measure, velocity, Acceleration, Errors and approximation.

    UNIT-III

    Integral Calculus: Methods of Indefinite Integration: - Integration by substitution, Partial fraction and by parts, Integration of special function, Meaning and properties of definite integrals, Evaluation of definite integrals.

    UNIT-IV

    Application: Finding areas bounded by simple curves, Length of simple curves, Volume of solids of revolution, Mean value, mean squire value, Root mean squire value of function.

    UNIT-V

    Simpsons and Trapezoidal Rule: Their application in simple cases, Concept of error for simple function.

    Quantum nature of light, Coherence (Spatial and temporal), Duality of wave and particle, Concept of Interference, Biprism, Fraunhoffer single slit diffraction, Grating, Resolving and dispersive power, Elementary concept of polarization. Fibre Optics: Critical angle, Total internal reflection, Principle of fibre optics, Optical fibre, Pulse dispersion in step-index fibres, Graded index fibre, Single mode fibre, Optical sensor

    UNIT-III

    D.C. Circuits Principle of Wheat Stone bridge and application of this principle in measurement of resistance (Meter bridge and Post Office Box); potentiometer, Kirchhoff's Law and their simple application. Principle of Carey-Foster's bridge. Electric Potential, potential energy, Energy of a charged capacitor. Fleming's left hand rule, torque on a current loop, Moving coil Galvano meter. Charging and Discharging of capacitors, Ballistic Galvanometer its charge and current sensitivity. Dielectrics: Electric dipole; effect of electric field on dielectrics, polarization. Magnetic Field & Materials: Dia, Para and Ferro-magnetism, Ferrites, Hysteresis, Hysteresis curve of a Ferro magnetic materials and their uses, Basic idea of super conductivity, Meissner's effect, Applications.

    UNIT-IV

    Semiconductor Physics Energy bands in solids, classification of solids into conductors, insulators and semiconductors on the basis of energy band structure. Intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors, Electrons and holes as charge carriers in semiconductors, Effect of temperature in conduction in semiconductors, P-type and N-Type semiconductors, P-N junction formation, barrier device characteristics, Formation of transistor, transistor-action, Majority and Minority charge carriers, Base, emitter and collector currents and their relationship LED's Photoelectric effect and photo devices. Nuclear physics: Radioactivity, Nuclear stability, Radioactive emission, radiation damage, Nuclear fission and fusion, Nuclear reactors (PHWR-type and fast breeder) and their application, Mass-energy relation, Atomic mass unit, Mass defect and binding energy.

    UNIT-V

    Lasers and its Applications: Absorption and Emission of energy by atom, Spontaneous and Stimulated Emission, Pollution inversion, Einstein coefficients. Main component of laser and types of laser- Ruby Laser, He-Ne and Semi-conductor laser and their application. Principles of Holography, Non-conventional energy resources: Wind energy: Introduction, scope and significance, measurement of wind velocity by anemometer, general principle of wind mill, India wind energy programme. Solar energy: Solar radiation and potentiality of solar radiation in India, unit of solar radiation, Solar constant measurement of solar radiation by pyrometer, uses of solar energy: Solar Cooker, solar water heater, solar photovoltaic cells, solar energy collector, Solar PV plants in India, and Modern applications in technology.

    Applied Chemistry-II:

    UNIT-I

    Environmental Pollution and its Control: Concept and various types of environmental pollution with special reference to air pollution and water pollution. General measures to control environmental pollution. Depletion of Ozone layer. Green house effect, Acid rain. Water Treatment: Concept of hard and soft water, Hardness of water, Its limits and determination of hardness of water by EDTA method. Softening methods (Only Soda lime, Zeolite and lon exchange resin process). Disadvantage of hard water in different industries, Boiler feed water, Boiler scale formation, Corrosion, Caustic embrittlement, priming and foaming. Numerical problems based on topics.

    UNIT-II

    Corrosion: Concept of metallic corrosion, Types of corrosion and factors affecting the corrosion rate, Chemical and electrochemical theory of corrosion, galvanic cell action, tarnishing fogging and rusting. Prevention of corrosion by various methods.

    UNIT-III

    Fuels: Definition of fuel, its classification and their composition, ignition temperature, flash point, Calorific value and determination of calorific value of solid and liquid fuels by Bomb calorimeter method, coal origin of coal and types of coal.

    • 2. Mechanism of addition reaction (Markonicove's Rule, Peroxide effect), Mechanism of Subtitution reactions (Nucleophillic hydrolysis of alkyl halide, electrophillic substitution halogenation, Sulphonation, Nitration and friedel-Craft reaction.

    UNIT-V

    Polymers Introduction,monomer and polymer, classification of polymers, polymerization, modes of polymerization (addition and condensation polymerization) thermoplastics and thermosetting polymers, preparation properties and uses of polyethylene, polystyrene, Teflon, PVC, Bakelite. Rubber, types of rubber, vulcanization of rubber, Buna-S and Buna-N.

    Elementary Mechanical & Civil Engg:

    UNIT-I

    Applied Mechanics: General condition of equilibrium of a rigid body under coplanar forces. Concept of tie, strut, beam and trusses. Shear force and bending moment diagram of simply supported beam and cantilever for point load. Concept of centre of gravity, moment of inertia and friction. Mechanical advantage, velocity ratio, mechanical efficiency of simple machines: Lifting machines much as pulley, differential pulley, wheel and axle, simple screw jack, worm and worm wheel.

    UNIT-II

    Strength of Materials & Power Transmission: Stress, strain, elastic constraints, stress in circular shaft subjected to pure torsion only. Rivetted and bolted joints. Power transmission by solid and hollow shaft. Gear trains - simple and compound, fly wheel. Rope and belts - velocity ratio, length, size of belt and power transmitted. Hydraulics & Hydraulic Machines:

    UNIT-III

    Properties of fluids, pressure of fluid and its measurement. Flow of fluids velocity and discharge, Bernaulli's theorem and its application in venturimeter, flow through pipe, head loss due to friction. Water turbines- Pelton and Reaction, reciprocating and centrifugal pump.

    UNIT-IV

    Heat Engines: External & internal combustion engines, working of diesel and petrol engine, horse power of IC engines, steam generator, construction and working of Babcock & Wilcox boiler, Cochran boiler, condenser, steam turbine classification and principle of operation, gas turbine. Civil Engineering Materials: General idea of raw materials, manufacturing process, properties and uses of Bricks, lime, cement and Timber.

    UNIT-V

    Foundation

    • a) Bearing capacity of soil and its importance, need of foundation for electrical machines.
    • b) Foundations for heavy, light and vibrating machines.
    • c) Concrete proportion, mixing w/c ratio, workability RCC and its use. Surveying

Circuits Analysis and Network Theorem Ohm's Law, Resistance in series and Parallel, Circuit Concepts: concept of network, Active and passive elements, voltage and current sources, linear, unilateral and bilateral elements, Voltage and current division rule,. Kirchhoff's laws, Star –delta transformation, Network Theorems: Thevenin's Theorem, Superposition Theorem, Norton's theorem, Maximum Power Transfer Theorem.

    UNIT-III

    AC Circuit: Concept of alternating current and voltage, Equation of instantaneous values. Average rules, R.M.S. value, Form Factor and peak factor of sinusoidal waveform. Analysis of series & parallel circuits: active power and reactive powers, power factor, resonance in series circuits

    UNIT-IV

    Magnetic Circuits: Magnetic flux, flux density, field intensity, B-H Curve, difference between magnetic and electric circuit, Faraday's law, Fleming right hand, left hand rule, Lenz law, thumb rule, self and mutual, inductance, induced emf, energy stored in magnetic circuit.

    UNIT-V

    Polyphase System: Introduction to polyphase system, Advantage of three phase system over single phase system, Star and Delta connections, Relationship between phase and line value of currents and voltage, Power in polyphase circuits, simple problems of balanced circuits only. Single Phase Transformer: Principle of operation, construction, e.m.f. equation, equivalent circuit, Phasor Diagram ,power losses, efficiency

Mobile Computing—Introduction, personal communication (PCS, Global system for mobile Communication (GSM), 2G and 3G services. SDLC(Software development life cycle).
